Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid;
For the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.
(Isaiah 12:2, ESV)
The Lord God is my salvation. The Creator of all things, from the smallest creature to the mightiest, He is my salvation. The wide rivers, crashing seas, streams, and ponds, He who made these things is my salvation. Every shade of green, blue, yellow, and pink paints a faded picture of His glory. The beauty of the earth testifies to His greatness. The infinite wonder of the heavens proclaims His power. There is none like the Lord my God. And He is my salvation.
This is Holy Week, the most sacred week of the year. From Palm Sunday, where the crowds cried, “Hosanna” to Good Friday, where those same crowds called for his execution, Jesus is the center. He was the center of the clearing of the Temple. He was the center at the Last Passover meal. He was the center of His betrayal by Judas. In all the activities that people could witness, Jesus was the center.
However, Jesus did not center Himself. He humbled Himself, limiting Himself to human form (Philippians 2). He understood hunger and thirst like we do. He grew tired. He felt happy and sad, disappointed and relieved, just as we do. He felt all…
